Was odd that the audience didn't seem to be such short story lovers.Tania Hershmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15781460794034586895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1674510287177469473.post-45656624073066703712009-09-28T13:18:21.784-07:002009-09-28T13:18:21.784-07:00Well I did seethe, Nuala - and so did the lady nex...Well I did seethe, Nuala - and so did the lady next to me, who actually hissed! (But I thing BB is hard of hearing, so would not have heard).
I understand completely the need for big names, the need to get bookings. But at what cost? Look - a room full of people who have paid to hear her at a SHORT STORY festival, hearing the short story being belittled. It was incomprehensibly rude to the organisers, who are dedicated, hardworking people with a vision.... it's just I wonder if they lean a little too far to economics, I think.
Not many of the people qho asked questions were interested in short stories, from what they asked. But the best one was 'tell us a little about your travel writing?'

reply from BB: 'Travel writing. I don't do any of that, do I?'

.Vanessa Gebbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00833187671441310234noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1674510287177469473.post-14724415152048285692009-09-28T11:34:29.747-07:002009-09-28T11:34:29.747-07:00OY OY OY!!! I am really glad I wasn't there either, my blood pressure took enough of a beating with that first damn sesson I wrote about on my blog... bloody hell. How is it that a SHORT STORY FESTIVAL is the kind of place someone, a big name someone, feels it is permissible to say this? Now I am feeling murderous. Not feeling very inclined to shower my hard-earned cash on S Wonder again.Tania Hershmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15781460794034586895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1674510287177469473.post-37962461462594403132009-09-28T11:32:06.735-07:002009-09-28T11:32:06.735-07:00Oh my. I think stories find their own length too, but then craftwise, Bainbridge spoke a lot about 'plotting' so maybe we just work very differently.Vanessa Gebbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00833187671441310234noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1674510287177469473.post-20879106908743988642009-09-28T06:09:27.656-07:002009-09-28T06:09:27.656-07:00How sad.
