Warehouse of abandoned books....

Well, I for one will not be looking too closely at the titles on the floor... look at this... the closeure of a warehouse operation that supplied Amazon has led to a free for all as people are invited to take what they want, for nothing.

One side of me says this is good. the other shivers.

DAILY MAIL ARTICLE HERE WITH LOTS OF AWFUL PICCIES. AWFUL IF YOU ARE A WRITER!

it looks like these were all 2nd hand... like one of the zshop sellers or something. So the writers wouldn't have seen any money from their sale anyway, right?

Hi Mr Perverse.

No, you are right, they wouldnt...but it was the sight of those books, slaved over, sweated over... aaagh, on the floor, trodden on etc etc

on the other hand it is great that peeps can sweep up books for nothing in this event.

always 2 sides to everything.

Liked the link I found to 'Friends'. Will post summat later.

When I saw the first images I was reminded of piles of books being burned - Nazi Germany, Middle East, everyone's had a go at it in different eras - there was just something about the angle of the image, the volume of books, that made me think of it.

Trodden on or not, at least these books, or some of them, will be read. Can't be a bad thing.

and yup. nice to think of the reading thing...

I think it's actually quite beautiful; surreal, sure and not the thing you'd expect to see. Yes, beautiful and chaotic. And what a lovely thing for all those already bought books (which could have been destroyed) to find people who want to take them in.

Thanks for the feedback on "Friends."

I've been reading your blog for a month or two, tho shamefully have still not read your work.

I was pretty active for a little while in the Flash Factory on zoetrope, where people still talk about what a class act you are.

...I kinda like Nik's comment abt beautiful and chaotic. As an alternative to trodden upon, one could imagine swimming through the piles, like Scrooge McDuck through his money.

Mmmm... books.

Ha! They can't have much to talk about if that is the case!

But thanks for the memory. I liked my time there... good place. Give my best to Frank.
